Silliest Sandra Boynton Board Books
Since 1977, with her first children’s book Hippos Go Berserk , Sandra Boynton has given the world of preschoolers over 60 fun-silly-loving board books. Mrs. Boynton’s books are all short but packed with educational value parents love and pure silliness that children adore. These are the best Sandra Bonton books. They are sure to be a big hit with the little ones in your life.
Blue Hat, Green Hat is an absolute favorite! It teaches a few colors and where clothes should go. Children love the silliness of this book and they really enjoy chiming in with all the “OOPS” when a character doesn’t know how to put his clothes on right.
But Not the Hippopotamus by Sandra Boynton
But Not the Hippopotamus is a fun book about a shy hippopotamus who watches the other animals playing but doesn’t join in. Throughout the story, children enjoy repeating the phrase, ” But not the hippopotamus”
In no time, the other animals realize the hippo is just watching and they enthusiastically encourage her to join in on all the fun with them. By the end of the book, the hippopotamus learns to overcome her shyness but….. then a new character has to learn the same lesson.
Are You a Cow? by Sandra Boynton
This a cute book that will get little ones chuckling as a chicken asks them if they are different animals. Each time a question is asked the child gets to chime in with their all-time favorite word, “No.” The story ends with the chicken finally realizing, “You must be you.”
Dinosaur Dance by Sandra Boynton
Dinosaur Dance shares the antics of dinosaurs enjoying silly dance moves and, in the process, children are introduced to several colors and a few dinosaur names. This is a fun book for children to act out as they “Shimmy” and “Tappy Tap” with the dinosaurs.
Moo, Baa, La, La, La! by Sandra Boynton
During the Christmas season, Moo, Baa, La, La, La! is a fun, silly way to explore familiar animal sounds. Kids get a kick out of pointing out that pigs don’t say “ha, ha, ha.”
Pajama Time is an adorable way to get little ones excited about bedtime and celebrating pajama time… hmmm…well…if your child is like mine was, they might be fooled so easily into thinking putting on pajamas for bedtime is something to celebrate but they no doubt will still enjoy the whimsical humor in this book.
The bedtime routine in the story has the animals putting on their pajamas, brushing their teeth, and then doing a quick little “pajammy” dance to the left, then the right, and then walking off to bed. The last page has the reader talking softer and softer with calming words like “hush” and “shhhhh” in smaller and smaller print.
Barnyard Dance! by Sandra Boynton
Barnyard Dance is a boot-stompin’ hit with preschoolers! This energetic, lively introduction to square dancing is packed with fun movements and silly animals.
The book is an absolute delight to read and whimsical illustrations will hold a child’s attention as a read-aloud. However, for those who want to take it a step further, inside the front cover, Ms. Boynton has included a link to a free download of the square dance calls to accompany the book so everyone can barnyard dance right along with the story.
Opposites is a super fun way to introduce children to the concept of opposites. What puts this book at the front of the line when there are many others covering the same topic? Hands down it’s the illustrations – they are perfect for keeping a child’s attention.
