Valentine Books for Preschoolers
Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity for teaching preschoolers about friendship and thinking about others.
These books are sure to get your preschooler excited about making their own Valentines and spark their imagination to find creative ways to let their friends and family know how special they think they are.
You’ll find a list at the end that you can print for easy reference.
Cocoa’s Cranky Valentine by Beth Hughes
This is a silly, Interactive Valentine’s Day Book about a cranky dog named Cocoa. He has to outsmart a feisty kitten that’s taken his Valentine and he needs your child’s help to get it back. Throughout the story the reader is asked to do certain things to help Cocoa – like blowing a kiss, dancing and giving the kitty a treat, This is just pure FUN!
Night Night, Valentine: A Valentine’s Day Bedtime Book by Amy Parker
This book makes an adorable way to end a Valentine’s Day. The Panda family enjoys a fun day of celebrating Valentine’s Day and then it’s time to say,” night, night” to the things they love and are thankful for because “All gifts are from above.”
Valentine’s Day Treats by Pauline Siewert
This story will inspire your child to make Valentine’s cards as they watch two young raccoons and their mom making Valentine’s cards together for their friends. As they let their cards dry, Mommy Raccoon helps her kids bake a heart-shaped Valentine’s Day cake. Instructions on how to make one of these easy-shaped cakes yourself are included in the book.
After everything is done they invite the neighbors over for a Valentine’s Day party.
The Valentine Bears by Eve Bunting
The Valentine Bears is a classic that has delighted preschoolers since the 80s. This is a cute story about a bear couple who are usually still hibernating on Valentine’s Day. But this year Mrs. Bear set her alarm for February 14th to surprise Mr. Bear with some sweet Valentine’s Day surprises, but Mrs. Bear isn’t the only one with surprises.
The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond
This is a story about a day it rained hearts. When it did, Cornelia Augusta collected them and then used them to make special Valentines for her animal friends. After reading this book together, your little one may be inspired to make their own special Valentines for their friends and family.
Pete the Cat Valentine’s Day is Cool by Kimberly and James Dean
In this book, Pete the Cat starts out thinking Valentine’s Day isn’t very cool. But then his friend Callie helps him to see how wonderful it can be, so he starts making Valentine cards for his friends. This book includes a Valentine’s Day poster, stickers, and even Pete the Cat Valentine’s Day cards children can send to their friends.
Groundhug Day by Anne Marie Pace
Groundhug Day is a charming story that blends Groundhog Day with the spirit of Valentine’s Day into a delightful story. It teaches the importance of friendship and looking out for each other. Moose is excited to host a big Valentine’s Day party with all his woodland friends, including Groundhog Everyone is concerned Groundhog will see his shadow and not show up to the party. Even with all their planning will they be able to stop him from seeing his shadow in time?
Little Blue Truck’s Valentine by Alice Schertle
Little Blue spends the day delivering Valentines to all his farm animal friends. At the end of the day, they have a surprise for him too.
Jesus Loves Me by Jerry Pittenger (Veggie Tales)
Jesus Loves Me is based on the classic song preschoolers love to sing. This book comes with a button children can push to sing the song over and over while looking at their favorite Veggie Tale characters. This book is wonderfully illustrated and presents plenty of opportunities to point out ways to be thoughtful and caring.
