Here’s a collection of fun preschool books about families. Families are a child’s first and main source of influence. It’s in the home, with their families, that most children learn to walk, talk, model behavior, learn customs, and form values.

Preschool Books About Families
One way for preschoolers to learn more about the world they live in is by exploring how other families live. One way to do this is by reading about them. Here’s a list of the best books about families that I’ve used over the years, and that preschoolers LOVE to listen to.
How My Parents Learned to Eat by Ina R. Friedman
In this story, a girl shares how her American father met her Japanese mother and how they both tried to learn how to eat like the other, before going out to dinner together.
A Country Far Away by Nigel Gray
This story follows the day in the life of two boys and their family, from two different countries, doing the same thing but in very different ways.
The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant
A charming story with wonderful illustrations, about some out-of-town relatives who come to visit for the summer.
We Eat Dinner in the Bathtub by Angela Shelf Medearis
This is a silly book preschoolers will love. When Harris asks Josh if he wants to come over and eat dinner with him, Harris has to explain why his family eats dinner in the bathtub.
This book is based on a classic folktale. It’s the story of a noisy, large family ( mom, dad, grandparents, and lots of children…. and a little baby) who all live together in a small house. One day the farmer visits a wise man for advice on what to do about
all the noise. His solution is sure to bring a few laughs.
Two Dog Biscuits by Beverly Clearly
This is one of my favorites. It’s a cute story about twins that set off with their mom to find the perfect dog to give their dog biscuits to. They eventually end up giving both biscuits away….but it’s not to a dog.
Family Themed Little Critter Books by Mercer Mayer
These family-themed Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer have been delighting preschoolers for decades. These beloved classics are stories your little one can relate to, and they are sure to, ask to read them over and over again.
