Letter C Sound

The letter C can make a couple of sounds. It can make a /c/ sound as in cat, or a/s/ sound as in the city. There are also blend sounds like /ch/ as in church.

We’ll be using the /c/ as in cat sound here.

Below you’ll find a list of animals that start with the letter C use this list as a starting point for things to explore. (Note: animals that start with the blend /ch/ weren’t added, but if you feel you’re child is ready, some of them include chicken, chimpanzee, chipmunk, and cheetah.

For Letter C Bible you could learn about Creation. Read the story from your favorite children’s Bible – my favorites for preschoolers are My First Hands-On Bible and The Beginner’s Bible.

  • Talk about Creation – God created the world
    • animals
    • plants and trees
    • people (them, Mommy, Daddy …)
    • the ocean
    • mountains
    • the sun, moon, stars, and planets

Introduce your child to new things to eat with this list of fun foods and snacks that start with the letter C.

  • Coconuts are a fascinating, fun, new food to try.
    • How to crack open a coconut (This definitely requires adult supervision 😊)
      • Start by poking holes in the eyes of the coconut with a screwdriver or chisel.
      • Drain the coconut water into a bowl ( you may want to strain it to keep ice from slipping in.
      • There are 3 distinct lines on the coconut – hit each one with a hammer, and the coconut with open up.
  • Make cupcakes together – there is always something you can celebrate!
  • Find a place to let your child experience cotton candy!

Science Words That Start With C

Here are some science topics that start with the letter C that you can your child can have fun exploring.

  • find cattails need a lake or pond
  • learn what carnivorous means
    • find out what carnivorous animals eat
    • find examples of carnivorous animals
    • Don’t forget about carnivorous plants! I’ve bought Venus flytraps in the Spring from Walmart – they made very original Easter presents. (Amazon even has carnivorous plants for kids. )
  • Find out how animals camouflage themselves. This has a number of possibilities to explore ( birds, reptiles, jungle animals, ocean animals, arctic animals…)
  • Learn about cacti.
  • Learn about coral reef plants and animals.
